Instagram is working on new algorithms that limit the access or promotion of videos that are not original or that are downloaded from other platforms such as Tik Tok, Facebook and YouTube

Instagram Head Adam Mosseri yesterday shared a major change to the Instagram algorithm. Instagram will now focus more on original content and monetization of creators. It will not promote re-shared content or re-uploaded content from other platforms such as Tik Tok.

It’s a bold move that will harm fan pages and the accounts of those who use other people’s content, both of which make up a large portion of Instagram users.

What did Adam Mosseri say about updating the Instagram algorithm?

Adam Mosseri tweeted a short video of himself demonstrating the impact of re-uploaded content on Instagram. He wrote, “We’ve added new ways to tag and improve rankings: product tags, improved tags, and sort by originality. Creators are so important to the future of Instagram, and we want to make sure they’re successful and get all the recognition they deserve.”

Adam explained the reason behind changing the Instagram algorithm to improve the rating system in the Twitter video. Creators are the backbone of Instagram and when someone re-uploads the content, it reduces the revenue stream.

From now on, the algorithm will give less preference to re-uploaded content on Instagram. This means that original posts will have the opportunity to appear on the constantly crowded social platform.

How will the re-uploaded content be determined on Instagram?

Creators and users usually reuse the same content on different platforms. It’s a way to get the most out of their creativity and gain more from their content. But if someone re-uploads a Tik Tok video or other platform content on Instagram, the Instagram algorithm will not recommend it. Adam Mosseri did not give a clear answer as to how this happened.

Currently, Instagram uses hashtags to predict the authenticity of the content. It looks like these hashtags will form the basis on which Instagram will work and make recommendations to users. But determining if the content is original is not so easy.

It may inadvertently limit access to many publications and content that really deserves recognition. One of the more pressing concerns is whether creators try to re-share their original creations. It is common for creators to create a short video and then post it on Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, Tik Tok, etc.

Instagram’s optimized algorithm can have a bad effect on this type of content. Instagram also launched a product tagging feature a few days ago. It enables users to include products in their posts and increase sales.
